Notes:
Persons with dementia have memory loss and impaired judgment. Their surroundings may appear foreign to them. They have poor judgment and do not realize or are unaware of environmental dangers. They may unknowingly put themselves in a hazardous situation that a cognitively intact person would not do.
A person with Alzheimer’s Disease may have a problem with space perception. He/she may overreach for objects. This is a problem caused by changes in the brain and not by a condition related to vision.
Older adults with dementia may exhibit a variety of behavioral problems such as aggression, agitation, restlessness, and pacing. An agitated person may be hitting, kicking, or grabbing, and may try to get out of bed or a chair without assistance increasing their chance of falling.
