Notes:
The number of people over 65 has increased and it is expected that this older population will continue to grow.
By the year 2010, the number of people over 65 is estimated to reach 39 million. By 2030, that number is expected to be 70 million.
Persons in the 85 and older age group are the fastest growing group of older adults. Their growth rate is three times more than all of the 65 and older age groups together.
Older adults are more prone to falls for various reasons that we will discuss later.
